Cooling Panels

Cooling Panels

Main responsibility of the cooling panel is cooling the furnace structure. These panels are known as top, sidewall and bottom cooling panel related to the place cooled by the panel. There is another type of cooling panel called as dust cooling panel  which is applied to cool down exhaust dust caused by melting process and shaped knee form.

Furnace-top cooling panel

This section, that is placed on top of the furnace near electrodes, is composed of steel pipes and fittings of S235JR grade (ASTM A106 Standard). This particular steel alloy contains at least 1.2% of Manganese and 0.35% of silicon and is capable of bearing 475 C of heat. Pipes and fittings of the panel are welded together via special approach after shaping operation according to design plan.

Furnace-bottom cooling panel

Furnace-top cooling panel installed at ETB, is made of copper pipes and fittings of ETP or DHB grades. Pipes are seamless and extruded copper sometimes with blades to have more contact with surrounding air aside from water current and consequently more cooling. After shaping process, these pipes and fittings are integrated through Argon welding or silver soldering.

Sidewall cooling panel

Sidewall cooling panels is made of both steel and copper pipes and fittings mentioned above. The downer part leveling melt (roughly 8 rows) is made of copper and the upper part is steel. Also small steel parts of steel are welded to the upper part to collect  of melting operation and to protect the panel. After shaping, pipes and fittings are welded together as individual cells and installed on the furnace sidewall to complete the cooling circuit.

Dust cooling panel

As it is obvious, dust cooling panels are for cooling down the outage dust installed in the exhaust path and cover at least 30% of the path in order to cool the dust adequately. These panel are direct steel pipeline or knee (90 or 45 degree) equipped with flanges to connect to the furnace top and each other.

All cooling panels made by Araz Trans Co. are not only hydro tested for possible leaks, but also exposed to radioactive monitoring test for better reliability and where this test is not possible, magnetic particle test is applied.
